Our Experience
We first planted Early Sunflowers in the fall of 2019. The 2020 butterfly season was their first year flowering in our habitat. A yellowjacket hover fly found the flowers to be quite acceptable.
The plants topped out around 3 feet as they are in a part sun location. They have not spread as much as we had hoped. We surmise they are either a slow to spread plant or may prefer a lot more sun to reach their full potential. Overall we are pleased with how they have grown and for the insects that are drawn to them.
2023 Update: We found Silvery Checkerspot caterpillars on the plants in 2022.
