Plants are available for in-person shopping only at our location in Hillsborough.
Our online store is open 24 hrs and we try to process orders as soon as we receive them. We offer home delivery and order pick-up for all orders.
We offer secure online shopping through our shop. We do not accept orders by mail, email, raven, owl, or text. We cannot take orders by phone.
All orders placed through our online store will be delivered to the address you provide unless otherwise indicated. We do not ship plants by mail at this time. All sales are limited to within North Carolina. Click on the truck icon to see our delivery fees and delivery zones.
We accept credit/debit cards that are processed through PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to use their service. All online orders must be prepaid for home delivery. Sorry no CODs or checks. Pick-up orders may be prepaid or pay in person.
If a discrepancy is found please notify us within 3 days of receiving your order so that we can correct our mistake. Contact us at orders@backyardbutterflies.org.
We make a concerted effort to label varieties true to name, and we will exchange the product for the correct one in the event we have incorrectly labeled a plant.
We guarantee that our plants are healthy, have not been treated with any pesticides (including organic), and true to name upon receipt of your order.
We strive for happy, satisfied customers! If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase please contact us at orders@backyardbutterflies.org. We will either replace, exchange or refund your purchase for up to 30 days if you are not completely satisfied. We require that you provide us with a written explanation of your dissatisfaction and what you would like us to replace, exchange, or refund.
Because we do not use any type of pesticides our milkweed plants may have aphids or other insects. We do our best to reduce and control their numbers but it is a Sisyphean task. The caterpillars and plants have all learned to co-exist with the aphids and other insects. Wild milkweed plants do just fine without intervention and yours will, too.
If you think it is necessary to remove aphids or other insects we recommend doing so manually. Use of any kind of pesticide (even organic) will kill caterpillars. They are insects, too!

Our use of the term native refers to plants native to North America. When applicable we also will specify if a plant is native to North Carolina. We use the term beneficial non-native to indicate those species of plants that insects find acceptable to use as host and nectar plants. Insects do not understand the human construct of native. We may also use the term naturalized to mean those plants that are not indigenous to North America yet have become part of the ecosystem.
The product images shown are for illustration purposes only and may not be an exact representation of the product. Actual product may vary in size, color, and appearance. Where possible we have used our own images to represent a specific plant. Upon request we will email you current photos of any plant we have for sale so that you can see its size, color, condition, etc.
