Backyard Butterflies Terms and Conditions
HOURS OF OPERATION
Our online store is open 24 hrs but we only process orders from 8 am to 8 pm daily. We do not have regular business hours for shopping at our physical location. We offer shopping in person by appointment only.
An essential part of our mission is to assist you in creating your own backyard butterfly habitat or garden. We invite you to schedule a free tour or make an appointment to shop. All appointments for shopping include an optional tour. We encourage and welcome all ages of people to our habitat!
Our backyard habitat is only open to the public during our annual solstice Open House & Plant Swap and for special events listed on our yearly calendar. We highly recommend visiting our habitat June through early September. It is when butterfly activity is at its peak!
HOW TO ORDER
We offer secure online shopping through our store on our website. We do not accept orders by mail, email, phone, raven, owl, or text. We have been known to sell some of our plants while we participate in community outreach events. Please see our event calendar for details. And of course you can shop in person by appointment.
Pick-Up & Holding Policy
All orders placed through our online store must be picked up at our physical location in Hillsborough, NC. We do not ship or make deliveries. It is up to your discretion to decide for how long and how far you will travel to pick up your order. We can recommend local restaurants to eat at and other places to see if we’re part of your road trip, exploration, or adventure.
We may not be available during the time/date you selected for pick-up. If so we will notify you of our availability prior to processing and completing your order. If we know in advance that we will not be available to process orders we will post an announcement on our shop page.
All orders must be picked up within 3 days from the time you place your order. If you do not pick up your order within 3 days we will automatically cancel your order and refund your money less a 25% restocking fee.
We offer two methods of payment:
COP (Collection on Pick-up). Payment is due in full when you pick up your order. We accept cash, check, debit and credit cards in person. We use the PayPal Here app to process all card transactions.
All online orders are processed through the PayPal website.
ORDER ACCURACY & WRONG ITEM
We will verify your order with you at the time of pick-up for accuracy of counts, labels, condition of the plants, etc. If a discrepancy is found after accepting your order notify us within 3 days by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) to arrange for exchange or replacement only at our discretion.
We make a concerted effort to label varieties true to name, and we will exchange the product for the correct one in the event we have incorrectly labeled a plant. Customer acknowledges that they understand the plant type they are purchasing as posted on each product page at www.backyardbutterflies.org. Backyard Butterflies, Inc. will not replace or exchange any items where the customer purchased the wrong plant type.
We guarantee that our plants are healthy, have not been treated with any pesticides (including organic), and true to name upon pick-up of your order. We grow our plants using the best possible practices. We may use organic fish fertilizer on our plants as we deem necessary.
We strive for happy, satisfied customers! If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase please contact us at email@example.com. We will either replace, exchange or refund your purchase for up to 30 days if you are not completely satisfied. We require that you provide us with a written explanation of your dissatisfaction and what you would like us to replace, exchange, or refund.
Because we do not use any type of pesticides our milkweed plants may have aphids or other insects. We do our best to reduce and control their numbers but it is a Sisyphean task. The caterpillars and plants have all learned to co-exist with the aphids and other insects. Wild milkweed plants do just fine without intervention and yours will, too.
If you think it is necessary to remove aphids or other insects we recommend doing so manually. Use of any kind of pesticide (even organic) will kill caterpillars. They are insects, too!
You may cancel your order at any time and receive a full refund prior to your scheduled pick-up time. Cancellation after your scheduled pick-up time may be subject to a 25% restocking fee.
We will accept return of plants up to 7 days from purchase. All returned plants must be in original containers and in condition to be resold in order to receive a full refund.
Our use of the term “native” refers to plants native to North America. We may also use the term “naturalized” to mean those plants that are not indigenous to North America yet have become part of the ecosystem. We believe that there are “non-native” plants that are beneficial to butterflies, insects, birds, and other wildlife which is why we sell them.
The product images shown are for illustration purposes only and may not be an exact representation of the product. Actual product may vary in size, color, and appearance. Where possible we have used our own images to represent a specific plant. Upon request we will email you current photos of any plant we have for sale so that you can see its size, color, condition, etc.
